5 Hard Truths Why People Fail with Online Business

online business May 07, 2021

In this blog, we will go through 5 hard truths why people fail with online business. These are supposed to be hard and hard to listen to, so if it causes you to go through some emotion and self-reflection, knowing that some of these imply to you, do not take it personally - take this as an opportunity to change and improve for the better. Anyone can easily fall into these traps, but acknowledging that you have or you possibly are going to is a great way to get out of this as soon as you can and to improve.

False Expectation

Some people think that the truth and the experience should have happened sooner, asking themselves, “Why did this not happen yesterday?” Why is it not happening within a month?” “Why isn’t it happening within six months?”

If you are going to be successful - when you are going to be successful, you must know that it is going to take time, whether that is 1 year, 2 years, or even 5 years. Because the truth is, to build a long-term, sustainable business, it is going to take a long time - to build a long-term, sustainable business, where you can extract yourself, and make a business out of this and not just another job. It is going to take some time and you are going to stumble and have many fallbacks and setbacks, which are going to stress you out and make you exhausted from all the pressure which is on you. (definitely check out this video if you feel like you are struggling to be productive with all this pressure on you):

But you must push yourself and know that, with every good thing has a bad thing; but for every bad thing in life, there are more good, to tip the balance. What is meant by this is, even if you are stressing out about not being successful yet, and having false expectations that it is going to happen sooner than later, you should remember that the best is yet to come and that it will come if you give it time. You may learn lots of things about yourself and the business model which you were not expecting. So, within the first couple of weeks, you may fail - the chances are that you are going to fail and do something wrong, you’re not going to know what you are doing, and you are going to be confused, and possibly overwhelmed. But the truth is, this is part of the process, so don’t have this false expectation that everything is going to go well, and don’t have this false expectation that you are going to be super successful within a month, because this only happens to very few selected people, the very rare minority, that this actually happens to.

If you are going to start any business, get into it for 6 months, do everything that you possibly can, and take massive action - go through the challenges, the overwhelm, disorganisation, and go through everything - the practical, the nuts and bolts, to everything, and soak it all in - enjoy that process and watch yourself grow, but do not have that false expectation.

Shiny Object Syndrome

The truth is, when people have this false expectation, the online markets that you may be listening to, who are sending you emails, are doing a really fantastic job in really enticing you to look at another opportunity. When things get tough, our brain is wired to think of something easier, like, “Why not go to this other opportunity?” “I have been in this business for six months and I am not getting the result that I want, why not jump at this opportunity, because I am going to get the result within one month”. But this is exactly why people go into the shiny object syndrome, and they have started one business model, then they go over to another business model, then another. And after a year or so, they are not getting the results, because they have jumped ship over and over again, because the online marketers have got so good at triggering what you want and understanding you and what you are trying to do, and they are pulling your strings. And this is why shiny object syndrome is so fatal -  you want to do everything that you possibly can to avoid it, whether that is unsubscribing from YouTube channels and email lists - just do what you must do to be solely committed to that one objective and business model which you are in.

Comparing Yourself

This one is incredibly important. Whatever you do, do not compare yourself to others. If you have started a business model and you have been in the business model for six months, then somebody else has only just started and they have already surpassed you; whatever you do, do not let this discourage you and do not compare yourself to this person. Because each and every one of us, all have different backgrounds and skill sets - we are all different in many ways - we are all unique. Which means this person may have had success in the past, and that person may have started and been really successful in a previous business, and have learnt so many challenges, learnt so many failures, and have come into this business model and they are super successful straight away, because they have brought all their past experiences with them, and they have avoided so much which you are stumbling through right now. Believe in the process and your own process, be inspired by those people, and don’t let it be a negative impact or negative emotion which gets you pulled down and stops you being motivated, because that is not the goal.

Becoming a Slave to Your Business

Think about this, you have now started your business - you have been doing your business for 3, 6, 9, 12 months; you are a year in your business, you are getting some success, but you have now hit a bottleneck and you are now a slave to your business, you are running around in your business and you are having to do everything yourself. You are not growing in your business, which is making you feel like you don’t want to get up the next day to work in your business, because you know that you are going to have lots of emails flown at you, you have things to do and you are feeling overwhelmed and not sourcing the products; you’re maybe not writing those emails, not reaching out and finding new customers, because it is all dependent on you and you are now a slave to your business, and this isn’t what you want. You want to continuously remind yourself why it is exciting to be in your business and why it is exciting for you to build this business. And in term, what is going to happen is, you are going to want to grow and attract people into your business, build your team, and allow other team members to grow and have their growth within your organisation, within your company, with you basically outsourcing and automating using employees and virtual assistants. This is then going to allow you to work on your business, rather than in your business, and not be this slave. You want to have a day off when you want to have a day off and you want to have a lie in when you want to have a lie in.

You don’t want to be failing in your business, or having something breaking down in your business, just because you want to spend some time with your family or friends. So, don’t become a slave to your business, always think to yourself, “How can I systematise and grow my business? And how can I attract more people?”

Forgetting Why You Started

Everyone has reasons in their business why and when they first started. Whatever those reasons are, whether it is freedom, to get out of your job, to spend more time with your family, travel the world, or to never work on anyone else’s terms ever again. Whatever it is, you need to keep yourself reminded of those reasons. If you keep your eyes on the outcome, why you actually started, that is going to keep you motivated, driven and conditioned each and every day, to be excited - to do something else in your business which is going to grow you to the next level.

It is those people who are excited, motivated and inspired after 2, 5, 10 years of their business, who are going to keep growing, expanding and evolving in their business, because they know what they are doing it for - they have still got those reasons. And if you are going through some hard challenges; if you are maybe not getting the results that you want - those false expectations, those shiny objects are trying to attract you and bring you into other business models, always remember that you should stick with your business model, because it will allow you to achieve the goals that you want.
