How To Achieve Goals - 3 Tips To Ensure You Achieve Them

In this blog post, I am going to be talking about how you can achieve your goals. We are now in 2021, and it is very important to be inspired and motivated to achieve those goals that you set for yourself at the beginning of the year.

 In this blog post, what I would really like to do is talk about specifically how you can achieve your goals, and give yourself the best opportunity and chance to achieve those goals that you set for yourself.

A lot of people, only 3 or 4 months into the year, have already given up on their new years resolutions, and there are specific and crucial reasons for that, people simply get discouraged, and they fall back into their day to day living.

So, what are 3 great tips to ensure that you can achieve these goals set for yourself? 

You Have to Get Yourself to a Point Where You Have to Make it a Must 

This is crucial. This is the most critical aspect of you achieving anything. If you make it a must, if you make achieving a goal a must, then it will happen. How does this happen? How do you make it a most? This is just reaching that emotional threshold, reaching that notional threshold, where it is more painful for you to not achieve that goal. If you are working on things, and you set out with good intentions, and then you don't follow through, by getting discouraged, this simply just means that it is not a most for you. This is more for, I would love to do that, or I should do this, but I haven't got the time anymore.

The reality is people get their musts, they don't get their shoulds. You have to make it a must, and there is a very effective technique which you can use, to flip the switch. We are, as human beings, we are driven by pain and pleasure. We will do whatever it takes to avoid pain, and we will seek pleasure all the time. You need to condition yourself and trick yourself, that it is more painful for you not to achieve the goals.

For example, if you're overweight, and the doctors say to you that you need to lose weight now or you're going to have some serious health issues, this is now a must. You have a very high consequence which is extremely painful for you in your life. You then immediately make it a must. 

It's like if you have been smoking for your entire life, then the doctor tells you that you have got lung cancer, immediately people then stop, because it is too painful. It's being shot back into reality, and realising that you must change or something painful will happen.

You need to be able to do this with your goals. There are a couple of things which Kev has been doing which has allowed him to create this inner pain. Kev finds it completely unacceptable for him to not achieve his goals. In fact, it is so painful for him not to achieve his goals, that he will always work towards them. This doesn't mean that he will achieve every single goal that he has set himself, and the chances are that he won't. 

The reality is that if you achieve 70% of your goals, that is good. But, there are a couple of things that you can do. You can start asking yourself some really clever and quality questions. Questions are so important in your life. The quality of questions is in direct proportion of the quality of your life. What I mean by this, is if you ask yourself the right powerful questions, you can simply change your life - it is that powerful. Questions change the direction of people's lives, so for example, if Kev continues down this path, what will happen in the next 3-5 years. 

If you answer is that absolutely nothing will change, and continue down this self-destructive path, or continue down this path of feeling like you're trapped in some way of living, you will always be in that path, in that habit and same way of living, unless you answer the question, and really feel it emotionally, that nothing will change, and that is now too painful for you to continue on the same path.

You should make this experience as intense as possible. A couple of ways Kev does this is listening to emotional music which you are attached to. If you think of some of the greatest soundtracks, or any music which makes you emotion. Music has a great way of making us feel emotion. You should listen to songs which make you feel inspired and motivated. Then ask yourself some really powerful questions like, what will happen if you continue down the same path, whether that is smoking, drinking, doing drugs, whatever it is, or just simply go into your day to day job that you simply hate, whatever it is, what will happen, and really make that experience as intense as possible. Listen to the music, get emotional, start picturing yourself physically in the future declining; declining your spirit, your soul is declining into a person that you hate, because you're not taking action, because you are not achieving the goals and the life that you want.

We all have these goals that we want, we all want to be able to travel the world and be free, and some of us are feeling very trapped in our day to day living, and it is only when you can make that shift into a must, that it will happen. 

It become a must for Kev by simply asking questions and being aware. The trigger was speaking to his loved ones, the loved ones he had, like his son and future wife, and having a conversation with them, seeing where they are in their life, and what they actually want. And it was Kev's eight-year-old son at the time, that said that he would love to go to Disney Land, he would love to go to Barcelona, he would love to go to New York, and go travelling the world. It was at that moment then when Kev and Kylie look in themselves and thought that this is not happening to them yet, and the belief that they had is different. If you have a belief on what your outside external environment is, your quality of life is, and it is different to what you believe it should be, that gives you pain straight away.

So, Kev and Kylie looked at their life conditions, and Kylie was working all day as a hairdresser, Kev was working all day as an electrical engineer, his and Kylie's kid would love to do all these things, Kev and Kylie would love to do all these things, and they would love to give all of this to them, and be the best parents that they can possibly be. Automatically, this has shifted into a great deal of pain, which became very real. 

You Need to Make a Goal Compelling 

You need to make it something that you are excited about, and not just brand new excitement, because this is where a lot of people fall down. The excitement of achieving the goal and the result, is exciting for them. Then within 2 or 3 weeks, they haven't got the instant success that they want, and they then get discouraged. You need to focus on the process, you need to be in love with the process, you need to be excited about the process, not the result - do not get yourself attached to the result, the result is simply a byproduct of the process.

For example, Kev is doing a YouTube video, and one of his ultimate goals is to one day have a thousand subscribers, three thousand subscribers, or ten thousand subscribers. If Kev got discouraged every single time that he looked at his subscriber count, and wondered why he is only at 50, 75 or 100, then you will get discouraged and give up.

Life is a long term game, we are here for a long period of time. A lot of people overestimate the things they can get done in one year, but underestimate what they can do in 10 years. What this is saying is people want instant gratification, instant results, instant success, and if they don't get it, immediately they are discouraged, the process doesn't work, and you become discouraged, then they move onto the next thing. Shiny object syndrome. They are always switching plans. Whatever the case is, you have to remember that it is a long term process. Be in love with the process, be excited about the process. 

The only use for the ultimate outcome is simply as a reference of where you are now. This is why Kev does his monthly goals report. Where are you right now in accordance to the goals you have set yourself. You have to constantly remind yourself each day that you can do this.

Your Environment

Your environment is so important. Your environment is so critical. The environment that you put yourself in is so critical. You need to appreciate that you become who you surround yourself with, you become what you consume all day. If you consume the news all day, you will think about how terrible the world is, because that is what the news is telling you. If you're surrounded by negative people who are complaining about the government or taxes, then you will become a part of the crowd, and you will start to be negative yourself. This is just what happens. 

If you go into a group of people who are successful, your standards will immediately raise. If you go into a group of people who now have a high quality of living, this will immediately make you think about where you are progressing and what you are doing.
